Sinatra_Z - Muzakarah

Baru-baru ini sibuk tentang cakap-cakap tentang Muzakarah antara UMNO dan PAS malah sampai menjadi perbualan hangat di Muktamar PAS. Husam Musa yang sememangnya membantah Muzakarah UMNO-PAS dan lebih cenderung kepada Muzakarah dengan Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz telah kecundang di tangan Nasharuddin Mat Isa. Bagi saya baguslah kalau ada Muzakarah antara UMNO dan PAS dua parti terbesar di Malaysia, lagipun Muzakarah tidak bererti bergabung atau ke tahap kerjasama. Muzakarah bererti perbincangan, sebab itulah parti-parti komponen BN tidak begitu goyah akan tetapi geli hati pula melihat gelagat pemimpin PKR yang gelisah tak tentu arah.

Tapi satu perkara sahaja yang saya ingin tekankan di sini ialah,
memang bagus kita bermuzakarah dengan PAS akan tetapi bukankah baik juga sekiranya kita bermuzakarah antara kita. Terus terang saya katakan masih terdapat kesan perpecahan di antara Pemuda UMNO sendiri. Saya tidak nampak pada sayap lain tapi Pemuda UMNO memang agak ketara.

Setelah tamat pertandingan tiga penjuru Pemuda nampaknya masih berpecah belah mengikut kem masing-masing. Pergaduhan sesama sendiri masih belum lenyap dan saya lihat ralat pihak tertentu untuk menyokong atau menghadiri aktiviti pemuda tertentu kerana ianya dianjurkan oleh Setiakawan, Pemuda Berani atau Berani Berubah.

Sebenarnya Pemuda UMNO mempunyai para pemimpin yang bukan calang-calang orang. Lihatlah calon yang bertanding ketua Pemuda Tempoh hari semuanya merupakan pemimpin yang masing-masing mempunyai kelebihan tersendiri.

Mukhriz Mahathir adalah seorang pemimpin yang agak popular di kalangan pemuda (mendapat pencalonan tertinggi) dan dilihat sebagai seorang Pemimpin yang mesra dengan akar umbi. Dr Khir Toyo pula merupakan seorang pejuang yang tegus dalam mempertahankan prinsip dan pejuangan UMNO dan berjaya mendapat semula sokongan dari banyak pihak di Selangor.Khairy Jamaluddin pula adalah seorang pemimpin yang bukan calang-calang yang mana dia berjaya menundukan ayam tambatan PAS, Husam Musa di Kota Bahru, di hadapan ribuan penyokong kuat Husam Sendiri dalam Forum Anjuran Husam Musa dan tajuk dipilih oleh Husam juga. Dengan hujah-hujah dan kepakaran debat KJ berjaya memalukan Husam di kubu kuatnya sendiri.

Jadi kalau kita dapat mengembeling tenaga ketiga-tiga pemimpin ini bukankah ianya akan membuatkan Pemuda lebih kuat dan bersatu.

Kami di Gombak telah mencalonkan Mukhriz Mahathir untuk ketua Pemuda UMNO, Mukhriz menang tipis berbanding Khir Toyo. Akan tetapi kami berpegang kepada prinsip Parti dahulu sebelum individu. Sebab itu apabila Khairy Jamaluddin turun ke UIA Gombak Pemuda turut serta memberi sokongan. Tak kisahlah siapa yang kami mengundi dahulu, yang penting sekarang KJ adalah ketua Pemuda dan kami sebagai pemuda akan berkerja dengan ketua yang telah dipilih oleh perwakilan. Parti dan perjuangan didahulukan.

Lagipun dapat kita lihat dalam UMNO yang menang tak menang semua, yang kalah tak kalah semua. Saya rasa bahagian ini tidak perlulah saya terangkan dengan lebih lanjut.

Bagi saya isu persaingan sudah tidak lagi timbul. Ini kerana Mukhriz dan Khir Toyo sudah melangkaui umur pemuda untuk pemilihan akan datang, jadi tidak wujud isu pertandingan antara mereka bertiga.

Pemimpin perlu berhati besar, itu yang utama. Mesti berani hadapi kritikan dan merapatkan kembali barisan. Janganlah kita hanya selesa di kalangan penyokong, pemimpin perlu berani menghadapi bertemu dengan akar umbi dan ahli parti.

Maka atas sebab yang dinyatakan diatas saya mencadangkan agar kita mengadakan Muzakarah atau Kongress antara Pemuda UMNO yang melibatkan 3 pemimpin yang telah disebutkan tadi. Kongress atau Muzakarah yang akan merapatkan kembali barisan Pemuda kita. Biar kita berbincang, meluahkan pendapat, pandangan dan berdebat sesama kita. Sudah tiba masa Pemuda perlu Berani, Berubah dan mengembling semangat Setiakawan.

Saya cadangkan kita menjemput ketiga-tiga pemimpin diatas dan masing-masing boleh memberi pidato berasingan di atas satu platform yang sama. Setiap pemimpin boleh memilih tajuk yang mereka rasakan sesuai dan dapat membantu dalam memperkukuhkan parti.

Dengan ini kita mengelakkan dari perdebatan yang berpecah dan menumpukan kepada apa yang dapat sama-sama kita kongsi bersama. Setiap pemimpin boleh menyumbang kepada parti.

Saya yakin kawan-kawan dari Gombak akan berbesar hati untuk menjadi tuan rumah untuk kongress ini sebagai satu tempat yang mana Pemuda boleh kembali muzakarah dan mencari kata sepakat. Janganlah ralat untuk menerima pemimpin tertentu kerana kesetiaan kita terhadap individu lain. Yang menang bukan menang semua yang kalah bukan kalah semua. Kita sudah tiada masa untuk bergaduh dengan sesama sendiri lagi.

Bukankah dalam lagu UMNO ada dikatakan

Bersatu kita bersatu,
dengan setia berganding bahu,
jiwa teguh berpadu,
kita rumpun melayu,
bersama kita bersama,
mendukung hasrat SEMUA,
Berjasa pada bangsa, agama dan negara.

Oleh itu saya lontarkan pendapat peribadi ini kepada rakan-rakan di luar sana dan meminta maklum balas dari anda semua. Kita boleh berbincang mengenai format Kongress dan bagaimana hendak mengendalikan dan sebagainya. Sekiranya ada di antara rakan-rakan yang boleh menghubungi Pemimpin-pemimpin tertentu lagi bagus sekiranya buah fikiran Muzakarah ini boleh dicadangkan kepada mereka.

Saya fikir yang sudah itu sudahlah.
Perjuangan dan Parti mesti diutamakan.

Anggaplah perasaan dan sentimen peribadi sebagai satu pengorbanan untuk Parti kerana ada lagi perkara yang lebih penting.

Sinatra_Z - Limiting SPM Subjects.

Recently the Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin suggested in limiting the number of subjects in SPM. The suggestion is to limit it to 10 subjects and the core subjects are down to four compare the previous six. This way a student can opt for more elective subjects depending on their interest. Not all can agree to this, for instance Dr Khir Toyo believe that in limiting SPM subjects it would also limit the potential of the student. You can read more about it at www.drkhir.com.

I on the other hand agree with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Like PPSMI I think limiting the SPM subjects may have more benefit than the open cert system.
Actually this issue is not something new, as I notice that lately the trend is that students try to get as much A’s as possible so that they can get in the front page of a newspaper.

Of course I am not denying the right for a student to be the best as she or he can be. By all means I am fine with that. Nor am I pissed that I couldn’t get that many A’s (I am after all a product of the SPM open cert system).

At first it was all fine, I mean we all took subjects that we wanted and some of which we were interested but were not in the package (I took economics but I am in science stream). But then kids starting to go for 15 A’s and 16 A’s and even up to 19 As. I blame this to the girl who got 16 A’s and started to appear in Astro ads, after her all the kids would target as much A’s as possible so that they would get into Astro ads as well.

The thing is I don’t think this trend is healthy. Seriously, look if a kid gets 4 As out of say 10 subjects and the subjects that he did well was Math, Additional Math, Physics and maybe chemistry then I know exactly where he should be or where his interest is in. The same goes with someone who gets maybe just 3 As, just 3 but it’s in English, Malay and Arts. This kid should fit in Liberal-Arts. But when someone who gets As in Malay, English, Pendidikan Islam, History, Math, Add Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics, Accounts, Mandarin, Arts, Tamil, Engineering drawing, Music, Islamic philosophy and Literature I would go like uhmm….. What the hell do you want to be? A Mechanical Engineer who makes home made medicine while travelling along China and Southern India and in the mean time write a philosophical book to record the journey with lots of drawings in it?

You know, its not that I am jealous or trying to belittle this sort of achievement. But I believe that many of you out there agree with me when I say wait this is just too much or even weird. I want a student to get an A in a certain subject because he or she are very much interested in that subject and not for the sake of just getting an A.


Things get worse when some teachers tend to push their students to do this for the sake of making the school more popular. Well come on when the kid gets 23 A’s I am pretty sure they are going to mention the school thus higher funding in the future.

Notice that they usually write a motivational book after achieving the impressive amount of As. It’s like it was all planned.

If there is one thing that I learn in Uni is that SPM results do not necessarily translate into success in college life. Especially to those who don’t really know what they want to do. Just because one is capable of getting an A in math that doesn’t mean they are interested in becoming a mathematician. One of my course mate quit Engineering to pursue a degree in music. These days society and PARENTS yes PARENTS demand that they must get as much A as possible. The danger to this is that we would create a bunch of students who are very good at answering tests but not at thinking.

Tons of tuition classes and workshops out there which offer things like “Soalan Spot SPM” in which they teach the students to anticipate what would come out this year. Students would frantically study as hell and would vomit out everything that they memorise to the test paper.

Don’t we ever wonder at why we can have so many students with stellar results in SPM yet produce so few scientists or technocrats that are of high quality. There’s a saying used that Asians would get Deans list on the first 2 years in an American university but falter in the next 2.

I say that let’s limit the number of subjects one can take in SPM, make it 10 for non muslims and 11 for muslims (because of Pendidikan Islam). This way it is less stressful on these kids and more time for them to excel in extra curricular activities. To make sure that quality surpasses quantity we should opt for more project based marks and merits yet increase the difficulty in the test papers. Make the subjects more advanced one could say.

In conclusion, we do want student to do the best and exert their capability but not for the sake of glamour or school reputation. We need to get rid of this “Kiasu” mindset and not simply produce students who are good at answering test papers. We want students who are critical thinkers, who knows that they want and actually love the subjects that they choose.

So I say let’s start it from here and figure out the rest as we go along.

Ketuanan Rakyat. Kembalikan hak Rakyat. Mereka mahu memilih Menteri Besar.

Kebanyakan datang dari penyokong dan pendokong pakatan rakyat.
Dari Menteri Besar yang ditolak DAP pada mulanya (dan dipilih Sultan) ke Tuan Speaker sampailah ke akar umbi penulis blog dan pendebat kedai kopi.

Baguslah mahu memulangkan kuasa kepada rakyat. Tapi ianya membuat saya berfikir.

Dato Nasarudin Hashim menang atas tiket Barisan Nasional. Tidak seperti Pakatan Rakyat dia bertanding atas lambang dacing dan bukan parti. Bukankah lompatan itu juga menidakkan hak rakyat.

Bukan main bangga bawak ceramah sana sini. Langsung tak sebut nak pilihanraya semula untuk menentukan adakah benar rakyat menyokong lompatan beliau.

Now it seems that the media is somewhat apologetic to "Pakatan Rakyat" when it comes to Perak. Somehow the perception is that all the mess in Perak is due to Barisan Nasional's fault that decided to take over the government in an undemocratic manner.

But is it BN that is at fault here? Now I heard from many people who no longer subscribe to Mainstream Media the reason why they shun it is thanks to the "Spin" Factor there media like to do. So they decided to read alternative media like Malaysia-Today, Harakah online and what not, which ironically follow their Mainstream counterpart in terms of spinning as well, only for the other side.

It's hard not to be biased these days,
in fact it's even harder to be Neutral at all. You can write up to 10 damning report attacking the BN federal government but one article flaming say Theresa Kok or Khalid Ibrahim and BAM you're an UMNO paid najib BN dog cybertroopers.

So my fellow readers,
I know it's not easy to read between the shit that has been going out lately from both sides. But at least, even though you may disagree, give the other party a chance to explain their position.

So today I am not going to write an editorial or article to express my point of view. Instead I will list the things that happened for the past year and let you my fellow thinking readers decide and make your own conclusions. I don't think it's wise to feed you with my personal point rather let you decide your outcome.

2. DAP refuse to admit or announce that they are in any form of coalition/alliance/teamwork with PAS due to their experience in 1998. They refuse to hold any talk with PAS in terms of seat allocation so PKR and Anwar Ibrahim had to be the intermidiate to make sure it's one on one.

3. 9th March 2008 Barisan Nasional lost heavily on the march general election.

4. BN Perak manage to hold the biggest number of seats in Perak (29). So they met the Sultan of Perak to ask consent to form a government as they are the party (Registered) that holds the largest amount of seat in Perak State Assembly.

5. But the Sultan of Perak decline and noted that the oppostion might want to form an alliance and secure enough seats (31) to form a majority government.

6. The oppositon then met the Sultan and told him of their new alliance and submitted names for the new MB.


7. The 3 candidates were Mohammad Nizar of PAS, Ngeh Koo Ham of DAP and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi of PKR.

8. Since the state constitution only allows a muslim to be the MB Ngeh Koo Ham was striked out by the Sultan much to the annoyance of DAP.

9. After consulting with the Perak Mufti (May edition Muslimah millenia) the Sultan decided to pick Mohammad Nizar of PAS to be the MB of Perak due to his education background.

10. DAP protested this appointment and insist that if Ngeh Koo Ham cannot be the MB then they will back the PKR candidate which is Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi.

11. The Sultan refused to change his decision in which the state DAP decided to boycott the swearing in of Mohammad Nizar as the new MB of Perak. This is a form of protest at the insistence of the Sultan of Perak to appoint Mohammad Nizar as the MB as opposed to Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi.

16. Yong Teck Lee began the first move by rebelling against BN and subsequently his party left the coalition to be indipendent.

17. On 25th August now two of Perak State Exco Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi and Mohd Osman Jailu was prosecuted in court due to some bribery case.

18. Sept 16 Anwar Ibrahim did not produce any names and instead told that everything was in motion and that he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister to ask for a smooth transition.

19. Nothing happened and the only confirmed MP that has agreed publicly to join Pakatan Rakyat was Indipendent MP Ibrahim Ali of Pasir Mas with condition that he will be appointed as Prime Minister instead on Anwar Ibrahim.

20. The new Fuel subsidy mechanism was tabled and none of the BN MPs voted against it which could be the litmus test to Anwar Ibrahim's sept 16 plan. By now the whole project was in tatters and Yong Teck Lee's party did not join Pakatan Rakyat but remain indipendent.


21. April 3rd Yang Dipertuan Agong appoints Najib Tun Razak chairman of Barisan Nasional as the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia.

22. The two PKR assemblyman's bribery case made headlines after the infamous "Habuan seks sedekah" remark which drew heavy criticism from the Perak Mufti thus the chances of two by elections due to this case were more imminent than before with BN assemblyman calling for their resignatin.

Note - If these 2 seats were contested and BN wins both of them the balance will shift in which BN 30 Pakatan 29.

23. Pakatan Rakyat announces BN's assemblyman Dato Nasarudin Hashim crossed over into Perak Pakatan Rakyat government. Anwar Ibrahim hints that his sept 16 plan is back on track.

a)DAP's initial candidate for MB Osman Mohd Jailu would later quit pakatan rakyat.

b)If it wasn't the Sultan's insisntence Mohd Nizar would not become Perak MB in the first place.

c)The crossover started not from BN but from Pakatan.
